ELMIRA- Chemung County and First Transit are pleased to announce Michael Steele as the new General Manager of C TRAN, formerly Chemung County Transit. Michael is a veteran First Transit employee with 35 years of experience including 22 years serving as the General Manager of RTC RIDE in Reno, Nevada.

With a BA in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska, Steele started his career in transit as the Financial Officer of the transportation system in Lincoln, Nebraska and served seven years as the General Manager in Great Falls, Montana.

At C TRAN, Steele will be responsible for day to day operations, including service planning and development, operations, marketing, labor relations, and maintenance of C TRAN’s fleet of 36 vehicles. Also, he will oversee a $6 million annual budget and ensure that C TRAN adheres to all FTA regulations.

C TRAN has a staff of about sixty drivers, bus aides, mechanics, and administration. In 2011, C TRAN carried over 700,000 riders. Slated as goals for 2012, Michael Steele will play a critical role in directing new bus purchases, garage improvements, and other system-wide achievements.
